In Simple, Human Language

We strive to be a as-reflective-of-real-life-goodwill-as-possible, and we intend to always optimize Goodwill to be resistant to manipulation. That said, no human crowdsourced system is perfect, and we would advise you to take someone's Goodwill data as only a preliminary (and sometimes imperfect) indication

More
  1. The Goodwill indicator is computed using a variety of signals; it is not a simple linear count of likes.
  2. We apply mechanisms intended to estimate how genuine (or not) a particular like is and to reduce the chances of manipulation.
  3. The exact criteria and weightings cannot be made public to reduce the risk of malicious reverse engineering, but the system is designed using both statistics and psychology to be hard to “game”.
  4. We will keep improving the algorithm over time, which means your Goodwill indicator (and others') may change when we ship updates.
  5. We may limit, suspend, or remove access to Goodwill when we believe an account or activity is harmful, abusive, or undermines trust in the system.
